EDUCATION Pakistani Researchers In Top 2% Of The World Researchers List!

Sania Nister Advisor to Prime Minister among 8 Females researchers out of 81 Researchers from Pakistan, who have Secured their Positions as top 2% of Scientists of the World – Published by Stanford University.

The exhaustive list released by Stanford University has 159683 top 2% researchers of the world from various fields of research. The report was prepared by Prof. John PA Loannidis of Stanford University and his team. The list is made based on the citations and h-index data. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. Field and subfield-specific percentiles are also provided for all scientists who have published at least 5 papers. Career-long data are updated to end-of-2019.

There are 81 researchers on the list from 38 different universities of Pakistan, eminently from Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) University, University of Karachi (UoK), The National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and University of the Punjab (PU), working in 31 different fields of research e.g. Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing, Applied Physics, Environmental Sciences, Mechanical Engineering & Transports, Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry, and Plant Biology & Botany.

The successful researchers are affiliated with universities in different provinces of Pakistan. Islamabad holds the highest number of researchers (34) majorly from QAU, COMSATS, NUST, and International Islamic University (IIU), followed by Punjab (23) – mostly from UAF, PU Lahore and Government College University (GCU) Lahore and Faisalabad. Not far behind is Sindh with 15 researchers on the list, most of them are from UoK and The Agha Khan University (AKU). 9 researchers from the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) have made their place on the list who represent Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) and Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology (SUIT).

Among these researchers, 8 are females from different universities, including Sania Nishter (Heartfile Pakistan), Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with the status of Federal Minister, and BISP Chairperson. Other female researchers are Noreen Sher Akbar (NUST), Khalida Inayat Noor (COMSATS), Darakhshan Jabeen Haleem (UoK), Ayesha Kausar (QAU), Bina Shaheen Siddiqui (UoK), Tasneem Gul Kazi (University of Sindh), and Asghari Maqsood (Air University (AU) Islamabad).

Considering the contribution of universities/institutes, COMSATS has the maximum number of researchers (9) on the list, followed by QAU and UoK having 8 each, NUST and UAF each with 5 researchers, IIU has 4, while PU and AKU each has 3 researchers on the list.

There are 10 outstanding researchers who have made their place in the top 200 of the world in their respective fields. Muhammad Aslam Noor (COMSATS) is ranked 5 in Numerical & Computational Mathematics, Muhammad Ashraf (UAF) 54 and M. Yasin Ashraf (NIAB) 72 in Plant Biology & Botany, ‪Rahmat Ellahi (IIU) 66 and Noreen Sher Akbar (NUST) 115 in Mechanical Engineering & Transports, Muhammad Zaman (QAU), Anwar Hassan Gilani (AKU), and Khalid Mahmood (PU) are also in top 200 of their respective fields.

Distinguished 8 researchers who have 500+ publications are M. Iqbal Choudhary (UoK) 1028 Publications, Khalid Mohammed Khan (UoK) 641, Muhammad Aslam Noor (COMSATS) 615, Nadeem Javaid (COMSATS) 589, M Sharif (PU) 552, A. Waheed (NUST) 522 and Muhammad Ashraf (UAF) with 502 publications. Among them, the highest citation score of 4.33 is secured by Muhammad Aslam Noor.
